The 2024 Hockey East Tournament begins on Wednesday night with opening round games. In the matchup between the six seed and the 11 seed, New Hampshire (19-14-1, 12-11-1) welcomes UMass Lowell (8-23-4, 4-17-3) to the Whitmore Center for what will be the Wildcats' first home tournament game since 2015. Last year the Wildcats were one and done as the No. 10 seed. Meanwhile, UMass Lowell reached the semifinal round last year as a No. 1 seed.

These teams are plenty familiar with each other - and not just because they're both regional and conference rivals. They played each other last weekend in a home-and-home to wrap up the regular season. UNH won both of those games, both by scores of 4-0.
Because this is a matchup of the highest and lowest seeded teams playing in the first round, the matchups for the next round are locked in for each side depending on who wins. No. 6 seed UNH would get third seed Maine, while a UMass Lowell upset would see the River Hawks face the top overall seed and regular season conference champion, Boston College. Either game would take place on Saturday and make for quite the matchup either way.
